Crypto Twitter is furious after John Wall, NBA star, posted a Fortnite background to his NFT.

“Celebs really believe they can enter an industry they don’t know anything about, never interact in the community, and then launch a scam project that they’ll abandon within 3 months?” asked Twitter user 0x_fxnction. Twitter user 0x_fxnction asked if the team behind John Wall’s non-fungible token may have taken inspiration from Fortnite. Wall’s preview featured a Baby Baller on the court, spinning a basketball with his finger. However, many people commented that it was a lazy attempt to get into Fortnite’s NFT game. pic.twitter.com/tgcV8XeYaq– themariokarters.eth (@themariokarters) September 22, 2021 “If you’re putting a 600 ETH ($1.7 million) valuation on your project, you might want to make sure all your art is unique,” said Twitter user hotlneblng_. Others pointed out that Wall’s team might have to get Epic Game’s permission for the images to be used. According to the company’s website, users can create fan art and other content without commercial purpose. However, most other uses are prohibited. Crypto Twitter user 0x_fxnction defended other artists behind more well-respected digital creations. “Celebs really believe they can get into an industry they don’t know anything about, never interact in the community, and then launch a scam project that they’ll abandon within 3 months.” Wall’s NFT creation isn’t the first instance of copying art in crypto. Dan Hindes, creator of Wildfire, a game for indie developers, claimed that Epic Hero Battles, which features 10K animated NFTs engaged in a never-ending fight, stole his artwork. Hindes reported that the game had been removed after it received significant attention online. The team blamed a “web developer” for the alleged error. Many have criticised Polygon and Solana for cloning CryptoPunks. They were rebranded as SolPunks or PolygonPunks. Some NFT marketplaces have removed the NFT art, possibly in response to a campaign that claimed users might be confused about the authenticity of the punks.
